How To Use Olaplex

It’s no secret that I am a hugeee fan of Olaplex. I’ve been bleaching my hair blonde and applying heat to it for over fourteen years so it’s truly been through a lot- but it still feels super soft and silky. Five years ago, my hairdresser introduced me to the Olaplex line and it’s been a game-changer ever since!

Olaplex has six products for at-home use out currently, and all are given number names, from which can get really confusing so I thought I’d share which ones I use and how I use them. I use Numbers 0, 3, 4, 6, 7 & 8. I have not tried their conditioner yet (that’s Number 5) while Number 2 & 3 are for professional salon use only- if you pay for an Olaplex treatment at a hair salon, 2 & 3 are the products the stylist would use.

OLAPLEX NUMBER 3

This is the product that Olaplex is known for and is 100% worth the hype. It is a ‘hair protector’, meaning it visibly strengths hair and reduces breakage. Don’t confuse this for a conditioner as this is a leave-in mask that I use once a week. The bottle is 100ml and it usually lasts me from nine months to a year, so I really get the bang for my buck. If you are only looking to get one product from their incredible line, this is it.

How I use it: I soak my hair in the shower and then towel dry it. I apply Olaplex Number 3 my mid-length hair to the ends, and leave it in for at least 10 minutes, but usually I sleep with it in overnight. After, I was my hair with shampoo and conditioner like normal. You should see results right away.

OLAPLEX NUMBER 0

Number 0 is actually their newest product and is an intensive bond-building hair treatment. This is meant to be part of a two-step treatment and used in conjunction with Number 3. I use this every 2-3 weeks.

How I use it: On my dry hair, I apply Number 0 to the ends of my hair until it is drenched. I wait 10 minutes, and then I apply Number 3 to where I drenched my hair with Number 0. I wash my hair normally with shampoo and conditioner after.

OLAPLEX NUMBER 4

Number 4 is the bond maintenance shampoo- and a little goes a long way! A bottle usually lasts me 2 months.

How I use it: I use the shampoo about once a week- make sure that you don’t use this every time you wash your hair as the protein build-up will be too much.

OLAPLEX NUMBER 6

Number 6 is the bond smoother, a leave-in smoothing cream. It’s meant to smooth your ends and prevent fly-aways.

How I use it: On the days I shower but don’t use Number 3, I apply Number 6 to my damp hair after I showered with shampoo and conditioner. I try to alternate using Number 6 and Number 3/0.

OLAPLEX NUMBER 7

Number 7 is a bonding oil that is meant to increase shininess and decrease fizz. It is also a heat protector so perfect to use before applying heated styling products to your hair.

How I use it: I use this before I straightening/curling my hair, and on the days in between washes where my ends are getting frizzy.

OLAPLEX NUMBER 8

Number 8 is a reparative mask that repairs your hair and makes it soft and shiny. It’s similar to Number 3 and leaves your hair feeling like you just left the hair salon.

How I use it: I use this once a week when I am not using Number 3. For my hair length, I use about 3 pumps.

*****P.S. I wouldn’t purchase Olaplex off Amazon or any third-party suppliers that allows any random seller to post. Definitely purchase it through a reputable site (like Sephora or your local hair salon) where you know the product is authentic and not a copy.
