Stress Free Travelling Cash Woes

When you are travelling around the last thing you want to be preoccupied with is the nitty gritty details of things like internet banking and not being able to access your money when you need it, yet your bank decides to block access to your cash because you are on the other side of the world. You also want to prepare yourself in the eventuality that something bad happens like losing your mobile or your bag being stolen.

It’s essential to be organized when it comes to the financial aspect of travelling, so ideally you want a few plans in place so that in the event of you losing your phone or wallet, you can still access your money. Always better to be prepared just in case!

DEPENDABLE CASH

Though the majority of Americans were reported to have used their debit/credit cards 40% more in 2020, it is still very useful to carry cash on you when you travel. Hopefully once the COVID-19 pandemic has improved significantly, this will be permitted again.

Small rural villages that you visit in other countries are less likely to have the latest wifi technology or card payments, so it’s essential to carry the currency of your chosen destination before you head there. This includes coins as well, as they will be extremely useful for things like transport or buying things from a food market. Save your big notes for things like restaurants or taxis.

CREATE HIDDEN PLACES TO STORE YOUR CASH AWAY

Investing in a money belt you can wear discreetly, or placing cash in your bra (ladies) or tucked into your shoes or belt is a good idea in the event that somebody was to steal your bag or wallet off you. This would be particularly important to do in crowded city areas where pickpockets are likely to be rife.

It is also a good idea to divide up your cash into separate bags, keeping the majority locked away in your hotel/hostel room and just take out the bare minimum on a daily basis.

ONLINE WAYS TO ACCESS YOUR CASH

Another way to access money online is through a Cryptocurrency like Bitcoin using an Ethereum Wallet. This is essentially a virtual wallet where you can access funds to either buy or sell through, without having to use a bank as an intermediary.

KEEP PAPER RECORDS OF IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS

It is a good idea to revert to good old fashioned pen and paper for this one. Keep details of important emergency contact numbers of family or close friends, the telephone number of your bank, and a paper photocopy of your passport in the event you were to lose your phone and needed assistance.

It is surprising how much information we store on our phones yet when needed wouldn't know the numbers to contact as we just normally type the number into our mobiles and don’t think twice about it.
